PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE will someone from virgin confirm or deny in writing if tethering is included in the 4G tariffs ? I want to join NOW but I'm getting totally conflicting information. I spoke to supervisor who said 100% Tethering is NOT allowed but just now I talked with a support rep who says he's tested it and tethering works perfectly. Also a guy in chat says it is allowed s(see below). However my current supplier three have rowed with me over this and say that only they offer tethering at those low rates and point to the lack of information on virgin's website to support their case that tethering is prohibited by Virgin mobile.
C'mon guys what gives... Just have someone give me a break and answer the simple and reasonable pre-sales question....
If I buy your £12 6gig rolling tariff can I tether my computer to my phone (obviously phone need to be capable) so that my computer can use the £12 plan to access the internet?
simples...surely not too much to ask from a supplier.
PS would someone answer quickly as I need to give 30 days notice to my existing supplier and I believe that your deal finishes end of March so I need to act now.
it wouldnt let me edit so I'll post the virgin chat here
info: Thank you for choosing to chat with us today. An Virgin Media expert will be with you shortly. info: Hi there, you are now connected to one of our VM sales experts. virgin rep:
How may I help?
jon: your plan £12 2500 voice unlim text 6 gig rolling data....does it support teathering ie personal hotspot? jon: 3 say it doesnt virgin rep:
yes it does
jon: but I dont see that on your website jon: three are saying that absolutely you do not provide that jon: also what deals are available for existing cutomer upgrades? virgin rep:
As long as it is not excessive
jon: what does that mean? jon: how long is excessive virgin rep:
Not on a regular basis
Like long hours each day
Any idea what is excessive? Would a one off stream of a football match be excessive? Just got called and bought two sims with 5GB data each. It is rare that I tether, but there have been occasions when I have streamed a game on Now TV on my IPad via the phone.
Data usage on some Virgin Media tariffs is for mobile internet services and data consumption actually on your handset. It does not include using your handset as a modem to connect other devices such as laptops and tablets - also known as "Tethering". Please refer to your terms and conditions and other communications from Virgin Media to check whether this applies on your tariff. This applies to all new and upgrading customers since 24 January 2013.
If your tariff includes unlimited data, then this is for mobile internet services and data consumption actually on your handset. It does not include using your handset as a modem to connect other devices such as laptops and tablets – also known as “Tethering”
Hi Rich_b who is going to tell virgin media sales team about that???
In order to get the sale they are STILL telling customers that tethering is okay if not abused. And although I did not chance it and settled on three mobile for tethering several VM customers I know have found that they can actually tether without a problem.
So Virgin Media need to get their act together and and apply this policy across all their departments the the customer get the right infor when ordering.....IMHO :-)
Tethering is a handset feature. My understanding is that some networks charge extra for additional data usage and some will include it in your standard tariff. If you exceed your allowance with us then you'll be charged as per our costs here.
