New mobile phone contract

Have just started a new 2 year contract with Virgin and have received a new phone.  With my previous phone, Sim only, I was able to sent group text messages without additional charges.  Although my new contract gives me unlimited texts, I now have a bill of £100+ for sending group texts.  Virgin are looking into this and the adviser told me it was because I may have sent a long message with emojis so have just sent a short test message to 6 people but have been charged 50p per message.  Is this correct?  If so, how do I terminate my contract as sending group texts is my main reason for having this phone (a lot of my contacts do not have Whatsapp).  Many thanks.

Re: New mobile phone contract

Sounds like the group messages are getting sent as MMS and not a SMS to each recipient.

On a Android phone using the Google Messaging App, you can go into the Messaging App settings > advanced > and choose send as a SMS to each recipient.
