Mobile Network Black Spot

Hi,

I'm on sim only contract and over the last couple of weeks I have noticed  that my phone switches from 4G to H or H+ as soon as I try to make a call, within a few seconds the signal just disappears and the call drops. I have to rebooted the phone and changed some of the network settings but no change.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Mobile Network Black Spot

Well the phone will drop to 3G to make a call as Virgin do not support Voice on 4G (VoLTE)

It may be your 3G signal is poor in your location.

Try the OFCOM checker and see what it says https://checker.ofcom.org.uk/

Re: Mobile Network Black Spot

Thank you that was a helpful tool.  I've had my sim for well over a year and it's only become an issue over the last 2 weeks, something must have changed in the local area.

Re: Mobile Network Black Spot

Thanks for your posts adehone10,

Welcome to the Virgin Media Community Forum!

Just a quick question, have you attempted to use the SIM card in a different handset at all? This would be a good way to identify if this is an issue with the SIM card, and indeed our coverage or the handset that you're using.

Any additional information on the handset, such as model and manufacturer as well as age and supplier (is this a on a Freestyle contract through Virgin Media for instance) would also be helpful

Re: Mobile Network Black Spot

I've not swapped the sim over to another phone yet but was something I was going to try.

I'm using a Sony Xperia XA1 which is just over a year old and using a Virgin Sim only contract.

Re: Mobile Network Black Spot

Thanks for the response

Try the SIM in a different phone if possible and we'll see what results you get from that.

Did the checker give you any indication of a degraded service at all?

Re: Mobile Network Black Spot

It showed that EE Indoors was an issue, but as I said before this has only been a problem over the last few weeks.  Prior to this it hasn't been an issue.  It's not only this area where I've lost signal.

I'll swap the phone over and see how that goes

Re: Mobile Network Black Spot

Thanks for the response,

Just elaborate on that for me if you will, you say "It's not only this area where I've lost signal".

Do you mean within your house or do you mean you can be in multiple locations, indoor and outdoors, and the problem arises?

Multiple locations, indoors and outdoors.  I move several feet and I get a strong signal but it's only a recent problem

Re: Mobile Network Black Spot

OK, thanks for this extra bit of information.

Try the different phone as planned and then get back to me.

Hopefully we can get the solution to this issue as soon as possible
