How do I tell which mobile network I am on?

Is there a way to find out whether I have been migrated to O2 yet? I'm not even sure if I have been migrated to Vodafone… some articles say Virgin still uses EE for 4G. How do I tell what network I'm on?

Hi Grb26,

Thanks for using the forums to get this question about your network answered. I would be more than happy to look into this for you within a PM.

Before I send over a PM though, are you experiencing an issue with your current mobile connection that is prompting you to ask?

Thanks,

Megan_L

Yes, poor mobile reception indoors.

Thanks Grb26,

I am sorry to hear about that! How long has that been an issue for?

Also, is it just in your home or does it happen when inside other places such as work/friends/family's homes?

Thanks,

Megan_L

It has been bad for a while, over a year, but I don't notice the issue most of the time because my phone is connected to the wifi. The biggest issue is around 10m from home, where it drops off the wifi but doesn't have good 4/5G. Other places are usually okay, with occasional blackspots.

Thanks Grb26,

That helps to give me a better overall picture of the problem.

Most of everyone would have been migrated over to O2 by now, but lets double check so we can take a look at the coverage in your area.

Sending a PM over now!

Speak soon,

Megan_L

Thanks!

Hi Grb26,

Thanks for chatting with me in our PM, now that we've confirmed which network you're under we can now take a look at your coverage in your area.
I have O2's coverage site here - O2 Coverage - If you want to pop your postcode in you'll see that there is good coverage inside and outside your area.

Can I ask if you've got a spare handset to pop your SIM in? This is a good indicator as to whether it's a SIM issue or a handset issue - If it works perfectly well in a different handset make and model then it's likely to be a handset fault. If it still persists, then it could be a SIM fault.

Could you let me know and we'll continue to chat? 🙂

Thanks,

Megan_L

My SIM in another phone: still poor reception.
Family member on Virgin: equally poor.
Family member on EE: slightly better, but still not great.
EE SIM in my phone: as above - better than O2 but not great.

I'm starting to think it's just that my walls are too thick!

Hi Grb26,

Thanks for coming back to me, I am sorry about that!

If two separate Virgin SIM's have the same issue, and they're in different handset models, then there may not be much else we can do going forward 😞

I do have Ofcom's own coverage checker, I think it amalgamates all major provider's coverage so you can check each one. Do you want to take a look and have a read of any further info on there that may help?

Thanks,
