Cancel mobile order

Hi I’m looking for some advice please.

we ordered an iPhone 8plus last night and where told it would be delivered on Saturday which was great as it’s for my daughter as part of her Xmas. Logged on this morning to check everything was still ok and on our account it says it now won’t be delivered until the 5th January.

As there is a 14 day cancellation period my husband called to cancel as it wasn’t going to be here in time and he is being told we can’t cancel until the phone is delivered which is strange as they don’t even have the phone as it’s apparently out of stock and they are awaiting stock getting delivered then the lady just hung up on him.

Is this standard virgin media process or is there any way of cancelling the phone as we can get another elsewhere.

Thanks for your post and welcome to our community. 

Really sorry that the handset you wanted is out of stock and therefore no longer required by yourself, I can appreciate you're keen to cancel. 

As long as the handset hasn't yet been dispatched you should be able to cancel, therefore I'm keen to have a closer look.
