APN Settings ??

I have just returned from Fuerteventura where I was unable to use my phone or Internet for 10 days. On return, I contacted Virgin Mobile where I was told it was because I was using my original [old] SIM card and needed it replaced. New card arrived today but I was unable to access data so I had to contact the VM team who were able to advise the correct settings. Now this has confused me !!  My wife has exactly the same phone [Cubot Hafury] and she had to get a new Virgin Mobile SIM card for the same reason last year. However, her APN settings are completely different to the ones I was given this afternoon. Why should this be, when it is the same type of SIM card and both phones are the same ?

My settings :-

Name — Virgin Media Int
APN — goto.virginmobile.uk
Proxy — Not Set
Port — Not Set
Username — user
Password — Not Set
Server — Not Set

MMSC — Not set
MMS proxy — Not set
MMS port — 8080
MCC — 234
MNC — 38
Authentication type — PAP
APN type — default, supl
APN protocol - IPv4
APN roaming protocol - IPv4
Bearer - Unspecified
MVNO type - None

Wife's settings :-

Name: WEB
APN: goto.virginmobile.uk
MMSC: http://mms.virginmobile.co.uk:8002
MMS proxy: 193.30.166.2
MMS port: 8080
MCC: 234
MNC: 38
Authentication type: CHAP
APN type: *
APN Protocol: IPv4
APN Roaming Protocol: IPv4
Leave all other options blank/Not set

Re: APN Settings ??

Either of those settings should work fine :-)

The differences being

Name: can actualy be called anything

Username: seems to work with User or just left Blank

MMS Proxy: should have 193.30.166.2

Authentication Type: CHAP has higher security than PAP

APN Type: the "*" is a wild card and covers all options

That's exactly what I thought but when I put my wifes settings into my phone, it simply would not work !!

Nowhere on this forum could I find the correct settings. Confused …. I sure am :-)

Also, now that I can use my phone properly here in the UK, will I have any problems when abroad ??

Re: APN Settings ??

I have no idea why those settings your wife has did not work on yours 😲

With my new SIM's, about a week before going away I logged into my online account and turned roaming off for a couple of days and then back on, just reset the roaming - they both worked fine abroad.

Hi Trev012,

Have you been able to sort this since your post?

If not then pop me a personal message and I'll be happy to have a closer look.

Re: APN Settings ??

Hi Emma, many thanks for contacting me. Yes, situation was resolved when I contacted the Virgin Mobile help desk who gave me different settings to that which is on my wifes phone which is identical. I just didn't want to go abroad next time and not have any access.

Re: APN Settings ??

Thank you Trev012,

I appreciate your concerns with travelling in the future but it would appear all the settings are now correct.

We would just recommend ensuring roaming is activated at least 24 hours before leaving the UK which can be done via contacting a member of the team or your account online.

Please let us know if we can assist in the future.

Thanks,

Nat
