recordings..

I'm unable to watch programmes that have been recorded downstairs on the box upstairs, it just come up with please try again (V401).

Can anybody help please.

401 is usually insufficient network speed. Is one of the boxes connected to the Virgin hub via WiFi?

Sorry you're having some issues with it. Can you confirm if both boxes are V6 and connected via WiFi?
