Why doesn’t virgin tivo broadcast HD as standard?

Posting on behalf of my grandma, her virgin media tv broadcast is SD as standard, you have to press the blue button to get a HD feed. Is this normal or is there a way to get the HD broadcast as standard? I am a sky Q subscriber and all our channels bar BBC1 the HD is the standard broadcast. Can I change the virgin box?

It depends what you mean by having HD "as standard". In many cases, the HD variant of channels now occupies the EPG position previously occupied by SD.

ITV-HD is on 103, whereas ITV-SD is 113. 105 is C5-HD, and in London 104 is C4-HD.

BBC1-HD is on 108, largely because the BBC1 regions don't have HD yet.

Pressing blue works on most SD channels where there's an HD equivalent.

Hi an alternative is to setup a favourites list whereby you can set all the HD channels you want. Regards Micky
