Recently the Subtitles on BBC are flashing 888 up in the corner at regular intervals when the subtitles are on. Any clue why this is happening and how to stop it?

Yep. Still getting it inSW19.
Apparently it's limited to BBC One London SD and BBC Two England SD on Sky and Virgin.
BBC are looking at it. NOT!
It isn't happening on the BBC1 & 2 HD channels.
So if you don't mind it shutting down while your local news is on, stick to HD.
I don't think that the BBC think it's worth it.

The amount of TVs affected by this is now pretty small (estimated around one in 50,000 & dwindling) plus its only affecting one region, so its unlikely the BBC will spend much effort on it with its current financial constraints

I've just noticed that 888 is no longer appearing in SW19!
I don't know how long it's been fixed!!
I looked on the BBC website and there is no mention of a fix.

Perhaps it self healed.
I hope it's a permanent fix.
