Recently the Subtitles on BBC are flashing 888 up in the corner at regular intervals when the subtitles are on. Any clue why this is happening and how to stop it?

"and what we've discovered is that this is an expected behaviour due to a recent change to the new EBU subtitling format"
Does this mean that Sky and BT subscribers/users are having the same problem

Also. If this is a change to the EBU subtitling format, why is it not happening if I watch TV directly i.e. freeview?

Hellllllooooooo VirginMedia fatcats with good hearing ............
Are you gonna fix it?
Do you care for your viewers methinks not ............. we pay for a service that is failing to meet the needs of deaf people
so fix it ASAP

Does anyone know if this has been fixed yet? (If it has, an official announcement might have been useful...)

flaxthejute, please can you confirm whether '888' is showing when you use subtitles on BBC?

Apparently it’s a BBC problem.
Search the community for:-
“The display of '888' on transmission of BBC1 (or recordings from) via V6 box”

If I do that search I only get that thread :(. Any chance you can give us a link?

London SW19.
Just watched Pointless with subtitles enabled.
Didn't see 888 at all!
Dare I say it's fixed?
Who fixed it?
VM or BBC?
