Remove internal virgin cable set in wall.

Tuning in

Hello. I have recently moved into a property and the previous owner must have had virgin cable/media because there is a cable in the wall. I'd like to remove this cable but unsure how. I do not have a virgin account and will not get one anytime soon as I am in contract with another provider.  Below are the images. I'd like to get rid of the cable because it takes up space and is unsightly.

Could anyone advise how I can get rid of it? I've recently had a TV Ariel specialist around who said there is not risk of electric shock and just cutting the cable off, and then sealing up the hold with caulk.

Best regards

The cable should be disconnected outside (there should be a brown or grey box you can open & unsrew the cable). You will need a terminator cap to put on the end of the drop line from the cabinet. This prevents RF noise entering VMs network & interfering with the rest of the streets services.

One of the Forum Staff should be able to send one out to you, or you can obtain one of your own:

Thanks ever so much. As it is a flat, I am worried about cutting cables that are outside my flat. I think it is better that Virgin came to remove the cable as I am not confident doing anything to do with wires.

Can Virgin do this?

Thanks

I am not suggesting you cut anything. Cutting cables risks introducing noise on VMs network. The cable needs unscrewing from the outside connection & capping as previously described.

As for VM doing it, there are two problems:

1) You are not a paying customer, so VM are not obliged to do anything at your property.

2) VM will not remove anything that is not deemed a Health & Safety issue.

Thanks for the reply. I do not feel confident that I can properly remove the cable as I cannot see where it is on the outside of the wall.

Hi foresthill1,

Thanks for reaching back out to us, any cables on external walls ca n e unscrewed and removed, where do the cable in the picture lead to?

Regards

Paul.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. here is a photo of the outside of the flat. I believe my cable leads to the section of rubber towards the bottom of the photo.

However, it seems to be joined to other cables that are presumably Virgin cables for other flats. It is a block of nine.

If I start unscrewing these, firstly, there will be a hole in my wall, secondly, will the other flats be impacted.

Best regards

Hi foresthill1,

Thanks for coming back to us, the cable if fed to the other flats would have to be left as they are as this would cause them other Tenants issues.

The cables inside the proper that can be unscrewed can be without any issues and stop caps would need to be fitted.

Paul.

Thanks for your reply. The issue is that I do not know how to remove the cable without leaving cables uncapped, or accidentally taking the whole thing down.

I think it is better to Virgin to come out and do this job.

Hi foresthill1,

Before we arrange an engineers visit for you, can you confirm if you own the property? If not we would need permission off the landlord to have the cables removed.

If you are the owner of the property we would book an engineer to remove the cables for you but this would be at the charge of £99.

Kind regards Jodi.
