The most widely compatible way to use your home phone to communicate is to use the Next Generation Text Relay service

It's not actually specific to your home phone anymore, but like the older Text Relay devices it can be used both as a text to text system as well as using hearing operators to allow you to communicate with hearing people on the phone.
