Bought movie with dvd - movie keeps stalling

I have recently joined Virgin Media, tv, broadband and phone.  We are trying to watch a film I've bought, with dvd.    But films keep stuttering and stalling.  This is the first film I bought and it's not a good experience.  I am regretting leaving Sky if this is the best Virgin can do.
