connecting 2 routers

Hi can I connect a pre hub3 router to the outside box?

I have one router hub 3 upstairs and an ethernet cable from there would have to go round to many corners.

But I have an old router which the technician left behind when it got updated.

If I could connect the old router to the outside box via a 3 way plug, that be great because then the ethernet cable would have to be only 6 meters long and I save lots of money. Virgin wants £90

Many thanks

Devarsi

Re: connecting 2 routers

If you wish to extend your LAN you can connect an old router with an Ethernet cable to the hub in a LAN to LAN configuration. I'll post some detailed explanation if you want.

Re: connecting 2 routers

Hello Roger can I not connect the old router to the cable outside the house box fixed to the house?

The internet cable outside goes from the outside box to the hub 3 upstairs... But also connects to the TV box inside.

It's a broadband cable which connects to the TiVo box as well as the upstairs router via a two way switch.

You think I can changed the two way switch for three way switch and in this way connect to the old router?

Thanks Devarsi

No, you are allowed only one hub - the one which is activated. However, you can repurpose an old hub or router to extend your network.
