Wi-fi hotspots on the way

I just receive via email a notification about wi-fi hotspots I wonder if any one else has and what their views are on allowing their hub to be a part of the wi-fi network?

Re: Wi-fi hotspots on the way

I suppose its fairly immaterial what your views are as you can opt out...

Mine for the record are archaic. I quite enjoy the fact that when I'm out and about I am offline.  I can count on the fingers of one hand the times Ive thought "Gosh I really must find out what my friends status is" whilst biking through the green-way... And if I did I would switch on mobile data on my phone....

It would have been brilliant in 2011 before decent 3G and 4G services. Now its pretty meh....

And good luck getting a WiFi signal from my HUB. I have to use an AP to bring wireless to the back of the house, much less the street.

Re: Wi-fi hotspots on the way

I think the only chance of successfully running wi-fi Hotspots would be if the SHub had an aerial input, then an aerial or cluster of aerials could be mounted above the rooftop like an outdoor TV aerial, the hub could be fed by co-ax so that the signal path would be mostly clear of obstacles, then good wi-fi reception would be available for quite some distance around that location, that would make it a good Wi-fi Hotspot

Re: Wi-fi hotspots on the way

My hub's in modem mode ... they'll have a job getting a signal out of that.   Smiley LOL

Re: Wi-fi hotspots on the way

@ Dave_cq  Mine is in router mode to allow my Blue-ray player and freeview receivers to update and get the smart Internet channels when required.

Automatically.  VM transmit a software update for your hub.

Re: Wi-fi hotspots on the way

I have not opted out, but am of the same opinion as Kippies.

Oh and as I have a Shub 2 it is unlikely that it will be able to support a hot spot anyway.
