Why the Netherlands have 500 Mbps but UK only 100 Mbps max

In my home in the Netherlands, I have 500 Mbps(taken in 2017). But in the UK in June 2018 the max speed is 100Mbps. and that too only by Virgin Media? Why is that?

Yes 300 I meant sorry, When I took it was 300 . Again 350 is still less. Why would that difference be?

Or, if you live in a serviced area go to Hyperoptic who provide a 1Gbps service in the UK.

There are many factors involved like Commercial considerations, Population density, Market competition etc. etc.

netherlands average speed is 82mbps down and 40 mbps up ranked number 13

So not many people are getting 500mbps

Its helpful as you are painting a picture that the whole of the netherlands get 500, apcy has pointed out that its not the case.

Re: Why the Netherlands have 500 Mbps but UK only 100 Mbps max

The whole of Netherlands gets it from 2017 Apr onwards (when I took it). You may verify it here or give a call to them if you want to verify: https://www.ziggo.nl/

Alternatively, you may go with the statistics provided above. Which somehow does not state what percentage of the country gets how much internet.

Whether NL gets 100% or 10%, it does not matter. Because as answered by another member, there are providers in the UK which provide huge internet speed. And that was what the question about.

Re: Why the Netherlands have 500 Mbps but UK only 100 Mbps max

stats are current i posted. "Results are updated at the beginning of the month for the previous month. To be ranked in each category, countries must have at least 670 unique user results for mobile and at least 3,333 for fixed broadband."

so if 50% of people get 300 then 50% most get 41MBPS to get that average of 82

Re: Why the Netherlands have 500 Mbps but UK only 100 Mbps max

As posted earlier in the thread it comes down to commercial decisions regarding the investment needed to upgrade the infrastructure to allow faster speeds.

Ziggo and Virgin Media are part of the same group owned by Liberty Global.
