Upgraded to VIVID 350. Homeplug/powerline speed not going above 190mbps

I recently upgraded my broadband from VIVID 150 to 350. When I plug a laptop into my Hub 3.0 or stand very close to it and connect to the WiFi I get the max speed (350mbps +). This drops dramatically the further I get from the hub, which I expect.

However, when I connect to to WiFi on my devolo 1200 homeplug, the speed hits a ceiling of about 190mbps. This is still a great speed, but nowhere near the top speed I should be getting. When I was on VIVID 150, my homeplug WiFi would reach 160/170mbps, so in actuality, unless I’m plugged into the hub via ethernet or standing right next to the router, the max I can get is 190. This isn’t practical.

My question is - what can I do to break through the ceiling of 190mbps on my homeplug WiFi? Should I buy a new router and turn the hub onto modem mode?

Ive moved the devolo WiFi adapter and even plugged it in the same room as the main adapter that’s connected to the Virgin hub, but it still doesn’t go above 190.

Any suggestions?

190 is pretty much the maximum homeplugs go, if you want more speed the next level up is a "tri band" mesh system, pretty expensive

Re: Upgraded to VIVID 350. Homeplug/powerline speed not going above 190mbps

Thanks for your reply. Would that be the case with the devolo 1200? It’s capable of speeds up to 1200mbps. I know that homeplugs are dependent on the wiring in my house and other interference, however I’d expect speeds of above 190mbps with this home plug. It’s hitting a ceiling and doesn’t go above that even when I place both plugs in the same room.

in my experience you get about 10%-20% of what is advertised on homeplugs, so 190 is about rght

Re: Upgraded to VIVID 350. Homeplug/powerline speed not going above 190mbps

When I was on the VIVID 150 package I was getting max speeds. I’ve upgraded to 350 but the WiFi speeds max at 190.

Wondering if a separate better router would work?

Your own router would work at full speed and reliability only if connected by Ethernet cable.

Yes, but my confusion is why on the old broadband package I was getting maximum WiFi speed via the homeplug, but when upgraded to 350 it’s maxing out at 190.

When you were on VIVID 150 you could not possibly have got WiFi of 170Mbps from homeplugs, you cannot get more than was input!

150 is an advertised speed, average speeds can be higher. For example with VIVID 350 they have an average speed of 362mbps.

Re: Upgraded to VIVID 350. Homeplug/powerline speed not going above 190mbps

Homeplugs are convenient but are notorious for delivering significantly reduced speeds, any genuine WiFi speeds of 170Mbps would imply hub speeds of 300Mbps or more - which you most certainly won't have got from VIVID 150 not matter how overprovisioned it was.
