Task Manager - Processes?

Hi all once again not a VirginMedia question, but as you've been so helpful in the past I thought I would ask another question...
When I open Task Manager - Processes Under Apps I can see what I have running...Does anyone know what the numbers in brackets represent eg Google (32) iTunes (7) WhatsApp (3) Microsoft Edge (6) etc ...It's not a big deal just curious.

Hopefully I'll hear from someone soon.

Regards, Laurance

Re: Task Manager - Processes?

that's the number of processes that app currently has running.
expand it and you'll see each one.

chrome uses a separate process for each open tab.

Re: Task Manager - Processes?

Hi thanks for your reply. So though I only have 6 Google Chrome tabs open there are 18 processes open to support the 6 tabs? And for iTunes 7, Microsoft Edge only one Tab open yet 11 processes?

Not sure how the processes work. Another example where I have two tabs open in Firefox, and one in Chrome!

One person says it's normal, and others report high cpu usage with 40 + processes!

Re: Task Manager - Processes?

Hello

Processes are small pieces of a program like firefox that can run by themselves taking the example of firefox, one process can take care of displaying the webpage, one process can take care of images, one process to convert the  html code and so forth.

Certainly in firefox and chrome/edge you can reduce the number of processes.

Re: Task Manager - Processes?

Hi Mike many thanks. So they appear to be supporting separate items involved in the pages I have open...Makes sense.

Thanks again
