Street Cabled ....... pleeeaassseee !

I own a flat in a block of 24 flats in Fishponds, Bristol. All flats are privately owned, with a number rented.

The street is a cul-de-sac in a suburb surrouded everywhere with mega-fast broadband. Even the four houses at the end of the street ( about 55m ) which link to the main road.

We have <20mbps and Openreach not interested/planning to upgrade.

I am sure its is an intelligent business decision to bring Virgin to the flats as you will have probably have 24 instant sign ups. Plus planning is in for a further development of flats 20m further on.

My question is , who do I need to talk to so that I get get this moving, or at least looked at ? We are desperate to get out the 'black and white' days !

Thanks in advance

Re: Street Cabled ....... pleeeaassseee !

how old is your street/building?
if it's still "developer owned" then there is zero chance.

Hi

Block was built in 2004. We are all leasehold, however I have lived in other leasehold places with Virgin

ok so the road will be council adopted, so that's one hurdle cleared.
next hurdles is that all expansion planning is pretty much set until 2020, so it's probably unlikely you'll see anything done.

Yes the road has been adopted years before the flats were built.

I realise that planning may be in place for expansion, which is why I though 24 subscribers for 55m of cabling (plus install) may push it up the ladder for installation - easy business case

Thanks for your replies though

Re: Street Cabled ....... pleeeaassseee !

any plans are already set, and 24 "potential" customers wouldn't change that existing plan.

Do you work for Virgin then (or contractor ) to know all this ?

no, but it's the standard response you'll get regarding any expansion.
virgin reps have already stated plans are set for at least 2020, with little to no "in-fill" taking place (in-fill is where network is in place but a street or streets don't have network).

Re: Street Cabled ....... pleeeaassseee !

no point discussing openreach here as it's a totally different business model with legal obligations.
with openreach you're limited to how far away from the street cabinet you are, and whether the exchange and cabinet are fibre enabled.
