Openreach FTTP or VDSL?

Evening all, I'm hoping someone can help me with a question about Openreach connections (no point asking them!)

My elderly parents are moving to a non VM service area that's in the sticks.  Remarkably they will be able to get FTTP, or the ISP is offering slightly cheaper "superfast" connections running at 80 Mbps.

I interpret that to mean a choice of real FTTP, or a VDSL connection.  My parents would not need anything faster than 80 Mbps, my suspicion is that VDSL is a bit of a bodge technology that will possibly be less reliable, the age of the property is about 45 years, so may be a risk (unproven) that it has that flakey aluminium telephone wiring, and I wondering whether to advise them that for an extra tenner a month it would be better to go for FTTP.

Any opinions?

Thanks

Fibre is better than ‘wet string’ any day.
