MacOS doesn't recognise internet addresses starting with sky cinema

Hi all, first post so please bear with me.

I'm a virgin media customer with phone, broadband and TV. I also have sky cinema within the bundle that until 2 days ago has been working fine.

I can log in to sky cinema and select a movie by using my virgin media log in details, however when I press watch I get an error stating that my MacOS doesn't recognise internet addresses starting with sky cinema?

I have a 2018 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar running safari and it hasn't been an issue until now, in fact nothing has changed so not sure what this could be.

Any ideas on where to start please?

Can you post up a link and the full error message?

Tim

Re: MacOS doesn't recognise internet addresses starting with sky cinema

Nope I can't - I even tried zooming in at which point I could see the main error but NOT the link which is lost due to jpg compression.

However the main error says "Safari can't find the specified address" rather than Mac OS.  I did rather think that you had mis-stated the original error, as I've yet to see any OS that says it can't find an address.  It's usually the applications themselves that report the error.

Re: MacOS doesn't recognise internet addresses starting with sky cinema

No, sorry it definitely says something about macOS, however starts with the message;

Safari can't open "Skycinema://vod (there's then a load of numbers and letters which also mention a token) followed by authtype=WIG" with then a final message stating;

"because macOS doesn't recognise internet addresses starting with "skycinema"

Re: MacOS doesn't recognise internet addresses starting with sky cinema

it's safari giving the error, it's just one of apples usual vague error messages that don't really help you.
try using a differnet browser and see if the error goes away.

Re: MacOS doesn't recognise internet addresses starting with sky cinema

What's interesting is this part here

skycinema://

Note that addresses in any browser typically start with a protocol that the operating system is meant to use to recognise the address.

The most common protocols are of course

http://
https://

not to mention.

ftp://

It sounds as if you haven't installed the Sky Sky Cinema player.

Have a read of this and see if this helps.

Re: MacOS doesn't recognise internet addresses starting with sky cinema

My post did mention that sky cinema has been working and all of a sudden stopped in last couple of days, I had already installed the necessary, however will try again and report back later, thanks for this.

Re: MacOS doesn't recognise internet addresses starting with sky cinema

Cleared and re loaded everything and now working, thanks all, however what's annoying is it worked perfect, I did not change anything and now it seems ok after re loading, really odd.
