Re: I downloaded Windows 10 vers 1803

I haven't posted for a bit, (I've been faffing about with Python, amongst other things) so I thought stick this here as it happened recently.

Some cumulative updates (CU) for your perusal.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4494441/windows-10-update-kb4494441

When I downloaded this the other day, it had "uk.gov" (the way they do gov domains in the USA) so I pinged them a message saying that if they had updated the HSTS TLD's with this it wouldn't work.

On my machine there were 2 downloads for this; can't say if it's the same for Intel processors/MB's.  Looking at the above link today, it seems that they have fixed it! Smiley Very Happy Whoo.  They've taken notice, which is a good thing.

There's also this one which you get automatically (i.e. it is foisted up you):

Re: I downloaded Windows 10 vers 1803

strangely even though 1903 is apparently available to all via a manual update check, i'm getting "no updates available" on both win10 systems here.

Re: I downloaded Windows 10 vers 1803

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2019/05/22/windows_10_may_2019_build_1903/ Customers who are inclined to take the plunge can open their Windows Update settings and select "Check for updates." If and when the update appears – Microsoft is throttling availability so the version bump may not be immediately accessible to everyone – customers can select "Download and install now," provided they're running Windows 10, version 1803, or version 1809 with the May 21 updates or later.

I keep checking for it on our 3 Win 10 machines but just keeps telling me they are up to date.  As @sololobo says, they must be throttling the release presumably to prevent server overload.

Re: I downloaded Windows 10 vers 1803

Just got the 1903/6 update.  Took over 3 hours to download and install as detailed below (the irony it being the 75th anniversary of D-Day is not lost on me).

I started at 20:23 downloading using Windows Update:

Getting ready 20:23 - 20:43 (20 minutes)

Downloading 20:43 - 20:55 (12 minutes, 100Mb connection)

Pending install 20:58 - 21:01 (3 minutes)

Install 21:01 - 22:30 (1 hour 29 minutes)

Update/Restart (x3)  22:30 - 23:35 (1 hour 5 minutes)

Time to get to desktop/stupid messages 23:35 - 23:36 (1 minute)

Total time 3 hours 13 minutes (time I don't get back)Man Mad

Dark mode is no longer dark, but there doesn't seem to be anything wrong (bonus)wusc.jpg

Re: I downloaded Windows 10 vers 1803

guess you have a combination of a slow download speed and a slow computer?
mine was done and dusted in less than an hour.

Re: I downloaded Windows 10 vers 1803

There's a couple of things I noticed as well which I was going to add to my original post which had disappeared in the early hours of the 7th (thanks for restoring it).  Night mode has disappeared (I'm to lazy to find it) and the pictures that taunt you into wishing you were there (e.g. a tree on a beach in the Bahamas) rather than where you are blurred out on booting.  There's also the change in the desktop which is what I was referring to (wrongly) about dark mode.  Even on the darkest setting the taskbar is no longer back, but a dirty grey instead.   As this video below states, all the settings that were previously switched off are switched back on.

There's also a bunch of new icons and more system bureaucracy.  There's already a CU (https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4503293/windows-10-update-kb4503293) out for 1903  (a Bluetooth fix) which doesn't inspire confidence.

There's also these links too:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/890830/remove-specific-prevalent-malware-with-windows-malic...

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4495620/may-14-2019-kb4495620-cumulative-update-for-net-fra...

and lastly (Flash still hangs on with it's fingernails):

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4503308/security-update-for-adobe-flash-player
