why can i watch sky sports (after being diverted to log into sky) but no other channel on virgin tv go? can`t get any other channels to come on - just get "not available at the moment" message ?

Because that app is for sport only for Virgin customers you need the TV go app

There isn't an app for laptops for TV Go, it's a web based service at www.virginmedia.com/tvgo 

However the website can be installed as a 'web app' when using Chrome or the Chrome-based Edge browsers.

Sky Sports is also via a web browser, but that does then trigger a desktop viewer app which you'd need to install.
