So on my device list we have 2 iPads listed and that’s it. When we come down to my father in law he can watch virgin go stuff but when it comes to sky sports it comes up device limit reached contact provider.
any ideas

Go here http://manage-virgintvgo.virginmedia.com/skydevices using an InPrivate/Incognito mode on your browser and make sure it opens as http and not https.
You should be able to see which devices are registered for Sky Sports and remove any that aren't required.

With the Sky Sports app you can only stream Sky Sports content on one device at a time
