I have been using the Sky Sports app on my Chromebook for 18 months faultlessly. I downloaded the app from Play Store with no issues. So, in my opinion, the previous answer is not entirely correct.
It has suddenly stopped working however. This has been noted on Sky's forums.

Is there any news on this issue please?
The Sky Sports app used to work on my Chromebook up to a couple of months ago, so there was no compatibility issues related to watching live TV.
I have done a bit of investigating and there are many people experiencing the same problem.

What a joke. Chromebooks out sold MacBooks last year yet there's no way to watch Sky Sport or even my Virgin TV on it as the Virgin Go app is not supported on this device.
Really?

Welcome to my world!
It's advertised, you pay for it, you love it, Virgin take it away.
No compensation, no alternatives, nothing.

Many months on and NO update!
Why have Sky excluded Chromebooks from running their app?
Why are Virgin not making representation to Sky on this issue?

Because they don't care about their customers.
They take your money then forget about you.
