getting 50mbps, was 100mbps

We lost service a few weeks ago for a few hours for "scheduled upgrade" in our area. Since then I seem to be getting about half the speed I'm paying for and used to get. I've done speed tests at different days and times. Anybody else experiencing this?

Is that on wifi or on an ethernet cable connection?

If wifi - is it over 2.4GHz or 5GHz?

I do not work for VM. My services: HD TV on VIP (+ Sky Sports & Movies & BT sport), x3 V6 boxes (1 wired, 2 on WiFi) Hub5 in modem mode with Apple Airport Extreme Router +2 Airport Express's & TP-Link Archer C64 WAP. On Volt 350Mbps, Talk Anytime Phone, x2 Mobile SIM only iPhones.

Test it this way
_____________

Connect a computer/laptop, with up to date drivers, via a NEW and working Cat5e/6a ethernet cable, directly to the Hub which you have put into “modem mode”
This ensures that NO other devices are connected

Test speeds at https://speedtest.samknows.com/ - try on 2 different browsers.

If they are still low – boot your device into Windows safe+networking mode - to disable any potentially interfering software - and try again.

There are many posts on here (I have a list of ~30!) where QoS software, unknown/flaky software, old network card drivers, corrupted browsers, bad cables or other connected devices are limiting speeds on tests.

Report back what that gets

Thanks John. I didn't think to try different browsers - which produced interesting results.
I get expected speeds of 100Mbps using Firefox with speedtest and samknows, and around half that using Chrome! upload speeds and pings are similar for both. I've tried restarting my iMac and relaunching Chrome, but this is consistently the case.
I would switch to Firefox, but find it has certain bugs e.g. currently when using microsoft outlook in browser
and creating an email Firefox won't let you add cc or bcc boxes.

So something in Chrome is limiting the speeds. I never use it myself. I am all Macs myself - what about in Safari?

Ask in a Chrome forum for any clues.
