I have Gig from Virgin and run from Hub 5 to Desktop PC. Speeds were ok'ish last night (first time using it) then after about an hour it dropped and according to SamKnowns, Im getting full speed to router and only 80-100 on device speed. I have a gig ethernet card and is showing as full gig being used.
I decided to try the ethernet in my Macbook Pro to see if it was the cable and using SamKnows again, im getting 800+ device speed so, what can be causing my Desktop to only get these speeds? Windows 10

Connect your PC - with up to date drivers, via a NEW and working Cat5e/6a ethernet cable, directly to the Hub which you have put into “modem mode” (https://www.virginmedia.com/help/virgin-media-hub-modem-mode ). Or go into the Hub settings and turn off/disable the wifi and also disconnect all ethernet cables from the Hub. This ensures that NO other devices are connected Done, no difference. Have not got a new ethernet cable, this cable is brand new, like i said, im certain the cable is fine as it works perfectly on mac just now.
Test speeds at https://speedtest.samknows.com/ - or https://www.speedtest.net/ - try on 2 different browsers - as Chrome sometimes gives odd results. No Difference, Unfortunately Still 800+ on safari on mac
If they are still low – boot the PC into Windows safe+networking mode - to disable any potentially interfering software - and try again. Same Results...

I completely agree with John!!! I only use the windows desktop for 2 bits of software, one for work and one for gaming!

I'm up for that John ... 🙂
I have been all Macs at home since the 1980's... whilst having had to use windoze (cough, spit) at work since W3/ W5/ W7 Vista/ days - and all subsequent abominations thereafter 🙂
But TBH... I realise its just horses for courses... and for what I do - Macs have always just been the best tool for the job, option.
Remember.... that MS Office was written and released for the Mac OS well before it appeared on windoze and was much slicker.
And... if you were a DNA sequencer back in the day ('80's - '90's -- when I was) - you needed "DNA*" running on a Mac to manipulate and make sense of the data efficiently.
I do accept that things have levelled up and moved on since those halcyon days. - my gaming son for example - will only use a PC - I have already disinherited him .. but hey ho... old habits... and all !

I had to use Windows when I was working, we were even on some of the betas for original Windows and Windows Server, but I always preferred OS/2. When I stopped working I swapped to Macs and have never looked back.
