Virgin Media Lays Groundwork for Faster Upload Speeds (Article)

Great news if true 🙂  I saw some users on here have pasted stats showing 3.1 docsis upstream channels activated.

I have maintenance in my area on Tuesday wonder if I'll receive these extra channels too

32 REPLIES 32

The modulation being reported is wrong as far as the entire channel goes so not worth worrying about. No idea where it's getting 8QAM from: could be a defect in the modems themselves. Other software seems to just report 'OFDMA' as the modulation in 3.1 returns.

Modulation profile changes per minislot if it can so very strange to display anything there.

If the number is real, it could be the highest modulation used by a specific profile. 8-QAM is pretty low, though, even for profile 13.

Up to speed

I had the scheduled work in my area yesterday. I have no gone from 50Mbps to 0.51Mbps upload speed, no 3.1 channels in config. Checked speed using the VM SamKnows real speed check built into the SuperHub 4.

I cannot get into VMs status page (errors), but I feel the upgrade has gone wrong in my area.

Any ideas, Teams video calls for work now terrible?

I had maintaince this morning and I've gained a new upload channel

No mention of docsis 3.1 channel though but hub 5 does not say if 3.0 or 3.1

When you get it, it will probably show up in a separate table.

Some modems use the same table, but the symbol rate used by legacy channels is not valid for OFDMA, so that would be 0.

Bit late on the uptake with this but we had the update this morning (Warmsworth) Doncaster

I've seen no difference in speeds (touches wood) I have had a really good connection for quite some time, would be happy with faster upload speed.

Perhaps first quarter of next year.

Thanks for sharing.  I wonder if faster upload speeds coming soon then 🙂  Can but hope

VM will only market a higher upload speed, let's say 80Mbps on Gig1 for the sake of argument, if both the HFC and FTTP networks support this speed, but let's remember that VM is migrating to XGS-PON (meaning that some DOCSIS 3.1 upload area upgrades are not worth doing).
