VIVID200 Broadband Speed

What's reasonable to expect from the VIVID200 broadband service? I ran speedtests with my computer connected to the router via ethernet cable ten times. Also, I ran the troubleshooting utility that's on the Virgin Media website (it showed no problems). Using speedtest.com, the best download speeds I got were 81mbps, and the best upload were 11.7mbps. Is that really the best this service can provide? Or is it safe to assume this is worth having Virgin Media check out? Thanks.

Re: VIVID200 Broadband Speed

Your device is probably limiting you, does it say how fast you are connected via ethernet status? also post downstream/upstream stats.

Re: VIVID200 Broadband Speed

Thank you. I don't understand what you mean by "does it say how fast you are connected via ethernet status." The speedtest results I mentioned were from running the test via an ethernet connection (cable direct from my computer to the Verizon broadband router).

Re: VIVID200 Broadband Speed

Verizon broadband router?  I hope you mean Virgin Media broadband router?

Assuming you meant Virgin Media, it is very unlikely that a PC or Mac (or Linux) computer would be limiting your speed on an ethernet connection.  I'm on 200, and routinely get speeds that measure over 220 (a moment ago, fairly peak time of a Sunday afternoon, and it was 223).  Use the default speedtest server - that'll usually be a Virgin Media test server, which is how it should be (your testing your connection, not the onward hops to servers on other networks.

At 81 Mbps sounds like you've got a connection problem.  If you connect to your router, don't log in, but view the router status pages, paste them in this thread (nothing showing your IP address though) and somebody who knows about such things will be able to advise.  You may also want to set up a bradband quality montior over at thingkbroadband.com as that will show if you've got any problems with latency of dropped packets.

Aren't they using Verizon Hubs in Eire ?

IT could be limiting if its an old PC with an old (non-Gigabit) network card,

Agree tho', it is probably a connection issue although a 10/100 network card would max out around 80mbps - so it's intriguing that's the number he gets.

OP: can you check and post the network card in your PC?

Thanks. Yes, I meant a Virgin Media router (Hub 3.0). Here are the router status pages:
