Upload speed

I have been told that I will soon have access to fibre-to-the-premises broadband with speeds from:

100Mb/s UPLOAD and download at £28 a month

rising in 100Mb/s steps to

£900Mb/s UPLOAD and download at £48 a month

This is broadband only. No phone, no TV.

But I was wondering if Virginmedia had any plans to increase their upload speed from the 5Mb/s we seem to have had forever.

BTW I am on 100Mb/s at Virgin download

Re: Upload speed

The maximum upload on Virgin Media is currently 20Mb on the 350Mb product.

Re: Upload speed

Still not very impressive, is it?

Given the minimum upload speed on the package I quoted was 100Mb/s

Re: Upload speed

It will be a while before VM offer such upload speeds so if that is important for you - just go for it.

I don’t understand your issue.

If one supplier meets your requirement and the other doesn’t then your decision is very straightforward.

.... or am I missing something?

Re: Upload speed

I love peoples logic on this.
Someone else offers a different product so you should as well.

I dont go into BMW and moan they do not sell big macs the same as i dont moan that McDonalds don't sell cars.

If i want a car i go to someone that offers that product. If i want a bigMac i go to Mcdonalds.

Shocking way of thinking i know but try it it really works.

Re: Upload speed

But in this case the products are both internet services, not completely different things like cars and burgers.

VM is falling behind compared to its own sister companies in Europe who offer up to 50Mbps upload. (https://www.upc.ch/en/bundles/buy-tv-internet/)

Re: Upload speed

...but there is competition and the competitor has the product you want, Virgin Media does not.

Of course, the OP is fortunate to be in an area serviced by this niche competitor.

Re: Upload speed

Yes, there are plans to increase it from the maximum 20Mb at the moment.

Spoiler: not to 100Mb.
