Upgraded to 300/350mb... strange issues

Hi all.

First of all, when I log into my account in the VM portal it says VIVID 350 Optical Fibre. Which to me implys that I am on the 350mb package and not the 300 one, am I correct? It seems everyone (and there has been multiple calls) that I have spoken to on the phone tells me that a 350mb package does not exist. I even had an engineer out last friday to check the line and he told me 300mb is the top package, but it seems others on here have different information?

I've recently upgraded to 300mb from the 200mb package. At 200mb my connection was very stable and always returned around 220mb down 10 up on a wired connection on the speedtest.net website.

However..

Since upgrading to 300, I am only getting around 140mb down as a final result on speedtest.net, during the test it seems to push over 200mb but then settle down and end up around 100. I've tried a couple of other websites and they seem to get much higher figures of around 300mb as expected.

It seems that many others are getting higher figures on speedtest.net on here so is there an issue with my connection?

I have called the techincal line a few times now, one said she had changed the frequency of the line, a different one told me there was issues with my line and she would have to call someone out to check it. A nice chap turned up last friday and fitted a -10db adapter to the line, which didnt seem to do much, told me it was fixed and left.

So just to double check, would anyone be able to have a look through my router config to see if everything is ok?

Re: Upgraded to 300/350mb... strange issues

Can't help on most of that, but regarding the 300 or 350 question, Virginmedia's marketing is all about big round numbers, so they've got 50, 100, 200 and 300 Mbps packages.  Anybody on older packages (say 150 Mbps) stays on that, but change anything and you have to choose one of the new standards.

However, for reasons that I suspect come down to the number of channels and frequencies, the maximum speed that you'll get (always in the best case, so you could get lower) is actually a bit higher than all of those round numbers.  My Turgid 200 connection has just given a Speedtest result of 227.3 Mbps.  So I would not be at all surprised if a 300 connection was returning 340-360 speeds, and people assume that there is a 350 Mbps?

Of course, that's no comfort for those with ropey connections or over-subscription constraints, and even having a 227 Mbps connection doesn't delight me in the way that a 100 Mbps connection with consistent low latency would.  But whilst Verminmedia's persist with the crap Hub 3, the latency issue won't be resolved.

Re: Upgraded to 300/350mb... strange issues

Looking at the config files it does suggest 350 down and 16 up?

Thanks for getting back to me, Smiley Happy

I've located your account info and everything appears to be performing as expected at the moment.

Are you mainly having trouble with a hardwired or wireless connection?

Speak soon,

Re: Upgraded to 300/350mb... strange issues

It seems to be fine on every speed test except speedtest.net which I find strange. Can you also confirm if I am on the 300 or 350mb package?

Thanks
