Upgrade from 200mb to 350mb worse!

I’ve had a stable 200mb broadband for several years - last month I upgraded to 350mb but since then my connection is dropping off all the time all my devices are going offline all day and the internet grounding to a snails pace at times which never happened before!

i have spoken to VM on phone who got me to reboot router but made no real difference!

i can worrying see lots of Errors and Critical messages in the network logs!

feel like the service has gone backwards!

Hi Bluefusion,

Sorry to hear your connection isn't working correctly. I've just checked everything from here and can see no issues. How are you testing your speed? Wired or Wireless?

Re: Upgrade from 200mb to 350mb worse!

Hi John

several things, just to say everything was working fine before I got upgraded from 200mb to 350mb, but since being on 350mb I’m have a lot of issues such as:

1. Have several amazon Alexas  around my house and they are now regularly going red and announcing they are offline.

2. I have a nest security camera and I’m getting numerous messages saying the camera is offline, it’s going on/offline all through the night so I’m now getting a completely disrupted feed.

3. Generally when using the internet it’s now slower than before, and running speednet tests I was previously hitting 200mb before on WiFi it’s now regularly dropping down to -35mb.

Turning the router on/off seems to temporary fix the issue which I’m constantly having to do, but each time it then creeps back.

so at present the 350mb is performing worse than my previous 200mb which was stable? Nothing else has changed apart from your team upgrading to 350mb but it coincides with all these issues?

Re: Upgrade from 200mb to 350mb worse!

Hi there Bluefusion,

Thanks for posting back here with the additional information.

Would you be able to complete a speed test whilst the Hub is in modem mode please so we can make sure that the correct speeds are being reached to the router? You won't have to use modem mode for long, it will only be used for testing the speeds. Only one port will work for Ethernet connection as the wireless will be disabled.

Try this and let us know how you get on

Sam

Re: Upgrade from 200mb to 350mb worse!

Unfortunately I'm unable to do this as my only computer is a Mac book Pro which has no built in Ethernet that I can use without an adapter and I don't have one!.

Everything has been working okay for a few days but this morning, the security cameras and alexa's were dropping on/off all morning. Once again I had to reboot the router to resolve the issue.

Just ran a speed test with the Mac book as close to the router as I could get on WIFI and got:
Download 276Mb / Upload 19.5MB / Ping 12ms

I use a Pro and an Air too - I got thunderbolt-ethernet and USB3-ethernet adapters from eBay (<£10) for just this very reason.  Also useful when the wifi is poor.  So with 20m of Cat5e cable also on eBay at £3.95 I can get temporary connection where the wifi doesn't reach - e.g. in garage whilst following youtube videos on how to fix car problems, or garden shed when unwanted visitors arrive Smiley Happy

Re: Upgrade from 200mb to 350mb worse!

Well tonight everything’s gone off - the Internet is completely unusable! I’ve had to resort to posting this message using my phone 4G connection. Trying to run a speed test on my WiFi was almost impossible - says I’m getting a 0.09mb connection, Just what you want when your paying for 350mb, feel like I’ve gone back to 1982 dial up
