T3 Timeouts and Erratic Power Levels

Hey folks,

Internets been crap for the last few months (ever since summer kicked in)

Power levels are getting as high as 10-11Db DS / 38Db US and then randomly plummeting to -3Db DS / 51Db US.

Because of this I'm getting constant T3 timeouts and connection drops. I've checked every coupler/connector on the wire and everything's tight so I don't think that's the problem. The only thing I can think of is that the cables degraded over time as it's been installed since 2001 back on an old Telewest line.

 Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well the engineer came round yesterday and re-did a connector on the cable that was a little dodgy and also added a 4Db attenuator and a suppressor. He also switched the hub out for a new one.

This seem to work fantastic for the first few hours after he left but after midnight everything went downhill again.

Your power levels are fine but still too many Post RS Errors and T3 Timeouts mate. You will need to get back on to them, it seems something is still not right 😞

How did todays Technician visit go?

Hi,

The engineers where fantastic, they've inspected all the cable and replaced some extremely old connections, changed my position on the cabinet and rebalanced the power levels. So far it's looking good and I've not had any T3 timeouts so far.

I'll keep an eye on it for the next few days and report back if there's any problems
