Speed and latency problems

so since saturday (01/09) for some reason there's been a big hit with congest/problem between peak times and i've got no idea as to why.

so you know this is a day before 31/08 with how many connect has normally looked like unlately6aec474c3f35f9dc2cc3cdce67d6a43b6712f2a0-31-08-2018

its quite clear there's some sort of issue when it comes to the transit/routing of data maybe its an issue with LINX (london internet exchange) or something along these lines

Re: Speed and latency problems

Exactly the same sort of thing here. Virgin Call Centre in Cardiff told me I was making it up and as long as the Virgin Media sever closest to me (Nottingham on speedtest.net) was giving full speed nothing was wrong. Advised streaming services keep cutting out but they just said "Wi-Fi problem". Obviously a load of rubbish as I was getting these problems over ethernet too.

The only servers getting full speed for me are Nottingham (Virgin) and Bradford. Everywhere else in the country I am seeing like you between 2-10Mbps. Even Virgin's own servers in Glasgow, Basildon, London etc are all really slow (3-5mbps)

Like you say this is a wider network problem - call centre just say nothing is wrong - so frustrating

Re: Speed and latency problems

im glad to hear that someone else is having the very same issue as myself I just hope virgin looks into as internet during these weird peak issue times is very hard to watch anything never mind the damn buffering and alot of websites which are very slow at loading. it's clear that it isn't a local congestion problem if your able to get full speed else where

Re: Speed and latency problems

I have now setup the Thinkbroadband network monitor to see what my connection looks like. Results are the same pattern as you are seeing. I am also on Area 14. Doncaster side.

Re: Speed and latency problems

Hi aceado and Gary333,

Thanks for taking the time to post on the community.

My apologies you are both experiencing an issue with the broadband connection.

aceado - I checked your connection and everything came back as fine. The power levels are within range, no faults reported and the traffic is running low on the network which is good. Have you noticed this since you last posted? If so, can you post some up to date speed tests for me please. Do you get any issues when in modem mode?

Gary333 - I was unable to find your account to be able to check the line, I'm sorry. If you would like me to take a look, send me a PM confirming your name, if your account holder and full address please.

Speak soon

Sam

Re: Speed and latency problems

@Samantha_L thank you for the reply so you know the issue is still there which is very silly even after 3 weeks (24 days and counting) as to why it hasn't be fixed. i've not done any speedtests but you can clearly see the issue with pictures

the suggestion of putting it into modem mode i understand but for me its kinda pointless as this isn't problem on my own connection as the issue itself seems to at the ctms/box for proof of this here's the last 3 days from it (i do monitor it for a reason to ensure its not my connection at fault which does come in handy)

Re: Speed and latency problems

Hi there aceado,

Thanks for getting back to me and posting your BQM graphs, I appreciate it.

As mentioned in my post above, I was unable to find any issues on the network that would cause this latency/speed problem.

If there was an issue on the CMTS, we would expect to see more trending posts in regards to this.

For us to investigate this further we would need further diagnostics completed to have this escalated. Such as modem mode, more speed tests to be done.

I understand that this is frustrating, however we are not aware of any issues and we would like to help get this resolved.

Regards

Sam
