Slower ethernet than wireless

So I have just finished doing up my house & I have ran a cat 6 ethernet cable from a wall box to another wall box in another room. I used the proper tools & even checked the cable for corruption. I get 1gb internet from virgin and over wireless I get about 500mb. through the port I put in I only get 100mb/s. Do virgin routers cap some ethernet connections? or is it just my setup is faulty. logged into the router page and it gave me this (below). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. cheers

Either your:

  • device isn't capable of 1Gbps (has a 10/100 ethernet port).
  • cable is cat 5, which is only capable of 10/100.
  • cable is faulty.
  • HUB is faulty.
  • wiring on the ethernet cables is bad.

Plug a wired device directly into the HUB with a standard ethernet cable and check if the device connects at 1000.

I've had the pc connected to a network at 350mb before and it worked fine.

the cable is definitely a cat 6 as I installed it myself & just checked my amazon orders to make sure haha.

I used a cable tester on the line after I put it in and it gave me 8 greens.

Do you think its something I should take up with Virgin?

I updated my post above to suggest plugging in a device directly to the HUB with a shorter known good ethernet cable.

Unforuntely I don't have a different device I can plug in right now. the speed is capped over wireless also on my PC at 104mb.

I don't think there is any need to contact VM until you've proven your wiring is capable of 1Gbps.

Do you have a spare switch you could plug into the ethernet wall socket instead of the HUB to check the LEDs show 1Gbps?

All sorted, it was the connecting wires between the wall plates & the router/pc. sorry for wasting your time haha.
