Slow download on some pages

Could please anyone try following links and post your times for downloading ?

just random 100MB file
http://www.scurab.com/100MB.bin

//~500 kb image (takes approx 40s to load on my side)
https://ctrlv.link/XYfP

I have for a week or two so weird connection speeds to Czech rep.
It's a strange as it looks like some explicit speed limit for example if I download via FTP
looks like every connection is just limited to something like 50kb/s...
If I start downloading 10 files in a time all of them running ~50kb/s.

- Some czech sites are very noticeable super slow, but not all of them (so it's not just 1 website/server)
- any netspeed I tried / youtube or anything like that works just fine.

I've tried different computers & phones and the issues still persists.
Also tried different O2/Giffgaff mobile data and it's much faster, so the issue looks like something related to virgin media.

Is anyone experiencing something similar ?

Superfast

First link supplied is a security risk as it is a .bin file so i wont touch that,

The second link is super slow confirming my initial thoughts that it is their end not yours.

While you may have a great connection it is limited by what the server or website you connect to can put out.

To put it in perspective, i manage several servers in Europe and the US which are on 10Gbps connections and have no issues maxxing out my 1Gbps via FTP.

Hi,
thanks for the reply.
The BIN file is just random data, but I guess it's the combination of file extension and http what browser doesn't like.

Anyway the https://ctrlv.link/XYfP is actually on 1GBit line and works well via giffgaff just on mobile data, so
it must be somehow related to virginmedia or somehow on the route to the server.
But at least glad it's not just my endpoint.

Also another note the site may well be optimised for mobile hence the response time, could also be the routing via GiffGaff servers is shorter than off VM.

try tracerts to the same site on both Giff and VM see how many hops and what the routing is like.

Although routing is quite different, it's moreless same in terms of hops 13 (VM) vs 18 giffgaff.

Pings are not amazing, but far from anything what would signal any weird stuff on the way.

Add a video sample instead of the binary file.

Interestingly I've tried the modem reset today and when it finally got working all stuff is full speed.
The only difference is/was that I'm using MODEM mode instead of default ROUTER.
And yes, switching the mode back and forth is actually the issue, unfortunately for me I need/want the modem mode...

Can you please confirm what mode is your modem in ?

Tracert doesnt look too bad, a little packetloss on hop10 but otherwise not too bad.

I dont normally use router mode but i am having to currently whilst i have some ongoing issues, soon as i can i am restoring my home network a dropping the poor WiFi VM seem to think is awesome. They are far behind others when t comes to WiFi, no WiFi 6 support on any of their kit except for Hub 5 which by all accounts is as useful as a brick.

My VM Mobile service as gotten so bad in my area that I need WiFi 6 in order to make and receive calls whilst  at home, yes i ave reported this to VM and raised previous complaints but seems they cannot fix mobile for me even though there is a mast some 300 yards down the round.

One thing you could try is changing the MTU size, i currently have an MTU set at 1462 whilst the default on VMs kit is 1500. Finding the optimal MTU size is easy enough see:

https://www.tp-link.com/uk/support/faq/190/

Yes that a tplink site but the process for finding correvt MTU is the same.

Hope that helps a little.
