Slow and inconsistent speed on 200Mbps package

Hello, I'm on the 200Mbps package and I had the superhub 2AC had an engineer round today who swapped this for the superhub 3, when he done a speed test for got 180Mbps off it, the fastest I've got from a speed test is 116Mbps, but drops to below 50, I am running these tests on speed test.net on my phone but had the same results on a wired connection, not sure why the engineer was able to get a fast speed and I'm not and why it fluctuates so much, thank you for the help

Re: Slow and inconsistent speed on 200Mbps package

Your phones wireless is not capable of reaching 200Mb speed, 35-50Mb is about what i'd expect from a phones wireless on full signal strength.

Any speed testing must be done hard wired to a PC that has a 100/1000 Lan card and idealy with the router in modem mode with no other devices connected. Even then its not a true indication of max speed as other software on the PC can effect the results (e'g anti-virus monitoring) but it would be close enough to show exact speed.

How do you know his phone can't achieve full speed over wifi ? Mine can max out over 300Mbps

Re: Slow and inconsistent speed on 200Mbps package

As with pyro, newer phones can easily reach 200Mbs (and higher) it all depends on the make and model.

Re: Slow and inconsistent speed on 200Mbps package

I know my phone might not be capable of the full 200Mbps but as you can see on the image i got 116Mbps on one test, it's the fluctuation of the speeds which is annoying, the phone has an N wifi adapter in it which is connected on the 5Ghz Frequency.

Re: Slow and inconsistent speed on 200Mbps package

Wireless is inconsistent by nature. If you want consistent and stable speeds you will need wired devices.

As that adapter isn't an AC one, don't expect higher speeds.

Re: Slow and inconsistent speed on 200Mbps package

http://testmy.net/stats/?&t=u&l=1000&q=little%20oz2

these tests were done on a gigabit ethernet machine over a cat6 cable, can see that there is a large fluctuation in speed, and max speed it was getting was 95Mbps

Re: Slow and inconsistent speed on 200Mbps package

Something is still limiting the connection to a 10/100 connection by the looks of it. Might be worth checking your network drivers / settings if you are confident it's a gigabit network card / cable isn't damaged.

Any QoS enabled?

Connection wouldn't be having any hint of over utilization at this time of day.

Re: Slow and inconsistent speed on 200Mbps package

No Qos enabled, network card is gigabit and has been working in a different network at gigabit speeds perfectly fine, and the cable isn't damaged and was brand new

Re: Slow and inconsistent speed on 200Mbps package

Just looking on my account, would it have anything to do with being opted into the Virgin Media WiFi service? would this slow the connection down at all?
