SH4 Slow Speeds (Modem / Router mode)

toms88
Dialled in

I recently upgraded from M350 to 1GIG with the SH4. I have always used my own routers, in the past i had a PFSense custom router which was giving me no end of issues in 2020 after some SH3 fw update. I ended up getting a Ubiquiti EdgeMax router which was working fine, getting the full speeds.

Since getting the SH4 i immediately went to modem mode and hooked it up. Im now on average getting around 120-300Mb download speeds when its in modem mode. I have reverted to router mode to do some more tests. The best ive gotten in router mode is about 450Mbs but no more.

Obviously when i call VM support im told sorry, thats your problem we dont support that type of setup. Any tips from other SH4 users?

I should also mention that after going back to router mode the SH4 responds on both 192.168.100.1 and 192.168.0.1 which seems odd? This is with my direclty connected via ethernet to the Sh4

Below are the details from the SH while its in router mode. Given they wont help me with my own router setup, i guess there is still an issue since im getting less than half while in router mode?

Other than one of your upstream channels being on 32QAM, rather than the expected 64QAM, I can't see any issues with the stats.

Could you try a full 30 second reset (Press and hold pin hole for at least 30 seconds), put the HUB back into modem mode, and try again?

If this doesn't fix it put your HUB back into router mode and try the below site to see the actual speed reaching your HUB:

https://samknows.com/realspeed/

Quite disappointing to see that on router mode via that particular speedest its showing 1125Mb download.

I really hate how modem users get screwed like this. My SH3 was at least giving me what i paid for at often 350mb download.

I can get full speed in modem mode using my own kit, so you should be able to see at least 940Mbps (1Gbps ethernet limitation):

Could you try one device connected to the HUB in modem mode (Ensure all other ethernet devices are disconnected) to check it isn't your kit causing an issue?
