Poor upload speeds - 0.6Mbps - Area 03

Over the christmas period I've suddenly had terrible upload speeds. My download is okay, (although a far cry from my supposed 150!) but my upload really is a joke. Trying to upload a 17mb image file takes about 15 minutes if I'm lucky enough for it to be uploaded at all as it usually just fails as the speed is so slow. This is with several different websites, so it's definitely a problem with my connection.

I was hoping it would sort itself out now, but it's still ongoing. I work from home and it's pretty much impossible. Have to keep tethering my phone and I don't have much data :/

Just done a speedtest and have 19Mbps download and 0.6Mbps upload....

A second speedtest through Google directly gives - 3.86 Mbps download & 0.56 Mbps upload

I keep noticing the below error in my router network logs, not sure if this is relevant!

Any help would be appreciated! I've restarted the router a few times but this has made no difference. On one occasion, a few days ago, this just caused my connection to die entirely all day as it had issues contacting virgin and couldn't establish DHCP according the Network Log on the router. Don't know if there's a problem in the area, but can't find anyone talking about it and the virgin websites states there isn't

Re: Poor upload speeds - 0.6Mbps - Area 03

I take it you are testing the speeds whilst connected directly to the Hub by ethernet cable.

Your upstream power levels are running warm and there are quite a few T3 errors being clocked by the error counters. Without the logs in full it is impossible to know if they are contemporary or current.

Your downstream is showing a lot of RS errors, again impossible to know if contemporary without a timeframe. I would clear the errors in the Hub's GUI and reboot the Hub and keep an eye out for a sharp rise in these errors .

You could give the coax a quick once over checking for kinks and obvious signs of damage and all connectors are hand tight.

A VM Forum team member should pick the thread up in about a week and will be able to take a closer look at your connection, or you could always brave the offshore call centre if you want a quicker response.

Hi Maroda90,

I am really sorry to hear you have had these issues, are these still ongoing?

Thanks Joe_F

Re: Poor upload speeds - 0.6Mbps - Area 03

Thanks for the responses.

So I was connected via my own router and using the SuperHub in modem mode, which I've done for years without issue. But obviously, with a problem like this you'll try everything to eliminate all possible causes. So, went back to standard mode and connected directly to the Superhub via ethernet. Exactly the same problem.

So, even though I doubted it would do anything, I got a pin and reset the SuperHub back to factory settings. This actually worked and my speeds have been perfectly fine for the past week. I have not touched anything since then as was happy the problem was solved.

This morning - the problem has happened again. Upload is terrible. Speed test show similar results as before. I've kept an eye on the network log, and that t3 ranging response issue has reared its head again -

Re: Poor upload speeds - 0.6Mbps - Area 03

Your upstream power levels are now maxed out and there are quite a few T3s in a short space of time both indicate an upstream impairment on VM's local circuit. Using the Hub in Router or Modem mode will not make a difference.

Hopefully a member of the VM Forum Team will pick this thread up soon.
