Need some advice

Hi guys, I've recently upgraded my Virgin Media broadband from M100 to M350; the average 356mb/s download speed was too tempting for me.

However, I've done numerous speed tests on my phone and laptop and my speeds seem to max out at around 250mb/s. Whilst this is still quite high, it's not the ~350 that I'm paying for.

I've checked the specs of my phone and laptop and they are able to run at max speeds of around 900mb/s - so my devices certainly aren't the issue.

Would there be anything obvious that I'm missing which is prohibiting my devices from getting to the ~350 mark?

Sub-question; a forward path attenuator also came with the house I moved into. I can't find an article online that explains the purpose of this in plain English, so I would greatly appreciate if someone could help me out on this too.

How are you testing, wired or wifi ?  VM do not guarantee wifi speeds.  You need to test a wired connection direct to the Hub using a known good Cat 6a cable and a gigabit capable device.

However, a couple of things to try.

Try checking with Area faults on 0800 561 0061 or if you have a VM landline 150 as small local faults are not listed on the VM status page.

Try a 60 second factory pinhole reset as below;
Remove any ethernet cables from the Hub and hold the pinhole reset switch for 60 seconds. Do NOT reboot the Hub, just let it do it's thing. Note you will need the passwords from the bottom of the Hub afterwards, so make sure they are legible.

You could also try splitting the wifi SSID and manually choosing the best band for each device as below;

• Access your Hub by navigating to 192.168.0.1
• Login with the default login info (on base of Hub) unless you've already updated it.
• Go to Advanced Settings > Wireless > Security
• Under Wireless Frequency 2.4GHz change the Wifi Network Name (SSID), suggest append _2 to the end.
• Repeat for the Wireless Frequency 5GHz, suggest append _5 to the end and click on Apply changes

• Try to avoid spaces and periods in the SSID names as they can cause issues with certain devices.
