M500 Upload Speed (a positive!)

Hi all,

Does anyone know if the config file for M500 has changed recently? I upgraded from M350 a few days ago and after doing a few speed tests I noticed my upload was higher than my previous 350Mbps connection. This prompted me to check my config file in my modem and it would seem that mine is different to all others I can find posted on this forum for M500?

I knew from looking online at at the VM website that I was not expecting an increase in upload speed, however I now appear to get about 42Mbps upload.

Don’t  get me wrong I’m not complaining at all, I’m just wondering why it’s not advertised!

I was under the impression (perhaps incorrectly) that U/L was 10% of the D/L speed so 500Mb/s down should be 50Mb/s up!

It is not 10/1 yet on all Tiers (like many years ago).

350/35

500/35

600/40

1000/50

Due to 10% Contention you ideally get slightly more.

Now the chart bellow shows you what they now claim (due to the median)

* The advertised download and upload speeds for our Virgin Fibre packages are calculated by taking the median average, or the mid-point between the fastest and slowest speeds for each package at peak times (8-10pm), each month. This is in line with the Advertising Standards Authority’s (ASA) guidance.
** The expected speed range is the normal download and upload speed that you could expect at peak times (8-10pm, Monday-Sunday). This is in line with Ofcom’s guidance.

Yes it looks like you now have a 44Mbps upload, are you on residential or business?

Hi all, thanks for the responses.

@VM support I fully understand what the rates are for 350Mbps and 500Mbps. What I’m saying is I now have a higher upload speed than when I was on 350Mbps and the config file for the upload is higher than it was on 350Mbps.

I never ever hit more than 38Mbps upload on the 350Mbps tier but now ive moved to M500 I’m instantly getting 42/43Mbps. Not much of an upgrade but I wasn’t expecting anything

My query was more of a ‘can anyone else on M500 check their config and see if they have the same upload config as me as posted in my original thread?’

I’m keen to know why I’m so ‘special’ haha.

I’m a residential customer by the way.

Still 38 here on my M500!
