LS8 - getting less than 20% of paid service speed

Hi,

I've been having pretty slow speeds for a while now in Leeds LS8, today speedtest.net is reporting anything between 15-40mbps (though usually less than 20mbps) on a 200mbps package.

Have been told several times over last year or two that service might be effected by ongoing work but it never gets close to half advertised speed.

Re: LS8 - getting less than 20% of paid service speed

Hi apcyberax,

I tested using a gigabit connection (all cat6) thought Linksys gigabit router (running DD-WRT) into VM hub 3.0 in modem mode.

At the time I had just reset both routers (cold boot after waiting 5 mins) and confirmed no other service downloading through bandwidth monitor on DD-WRT.

For a brief period in the afternoon tests did show 160+mbps, but then back to 25/30mbps.

Sometimes a reboot of router and modem will get me 40mbps but never lasts long.

Re: LS8 - getting less than 20% of paid service speed

if removing the router (not the hub) gets speeds up that may be the router

wired into the hub in modem mode do the speeds still drop?

Re: LS8 - getting less than 20% of paid service speed

Hi Glennr777,

Sorry to hear you're getting poor speeds, I'd suggest doing as apcyberax has suggest and try a connection directly to the hub in mode just so we can rule out the router as a possible cause.

I've checked your connection from here and everything looks fine but the upstream power is at the upper end of its tolerance. If removing the router doesn't fix the speed we can look into the upstream power for you.

Re: LS8 - getting less than 20% of paid service speed

Hey,

Thanks guys - I've checked plugging directly in to VM router and it doesn't really effect the speed. I did realise I had a QoS setting enabled that was effecting overall throughput on the DD WRT router but I still think the connection to the house might be the underlying issue.

Cheers,

The network in LS8/9 seems dodgy. Hear a lot of complaints over reliability and performance.

Downstream SNR isn't exactly stellar on the above.

Hi glennr777,

Sorry to hear about that, how are things looking at the moment, are you still having issues?

Thanks Joe_F
