Re: Internet connection barely usable - Fault ref F002896495

Well, here's my 'outage' today:

5430966331

Upload's all right actually, shame about the massive ping and ridiculous download. That was actually a spike in the speed test too, it was hanging around 0.4Mb!! Bit different to 100Mb, should the ASA be looking.

The good news.............should be moving house soon so will be able to dump this shower. Can get BT infinity and the other providers that piggy back. Headline speed is slower but massively faster than what I generally get with these buffoons and there is a minimum guaranteed speed:

You could get
40Mb-54MbEstimated download speed range*
35Mb Minimum guaranteed speed*

35Mb minimum.................hmmmmm.................70 times faster than my normal Saturday speed! I'll actually be able to download stuff, stream, watch stuff, actually browse a web page without it hanging...........

Shame though, as if this service worked as advertised, it would be the best. VM just need to stop signing people up (many under false promises of massive speeds - see Vivid adverts which are a bigger work of fiction than Harry Potter) and fix their creaking infrastructure. Anyone that is suffering with over-utilisation needs to be made aware that they could be suffering for years, and if they do have an alternative in their area, just switch. I think that's the only thing that's going to get VM to pull their thumb out of their ring and do something.

Whoop! Just seen my pings have dropped back to only double digits so I'm going to try and post this and do some surfing!

Laters.

Re: Internet connection barely usable - Fault ref F002896495

Only 27 more days to the next review for F002896495. Can't wait.

Here's tonight's blisteringly fast speed tests:

5477571649

146853692245168172119

Thinkbroadband tells me 'Your test shows variable download speeds. This may be down congestion or other issues'. Really? I'd never have guessed.

Just to reiterate the thread title...

Internet connection barely usable

The worrying thing I've always thought about the speedtest is there are still 33% of the country with worse internet according to that.

Probably because fibre optic broadband is only currently available to two thirds of the UK. And I'm barely getting ADSL speeds.

Re: Internet connection barely usable

I was told that I may see some improvement as we get close to the review date as 'work goes on', haven't seen any though as I suspect there isn't actually any work being carried out.

May see some improvement?????

I've just witnessed a new record low for speed..........

5486577325

Yes, 300kbps with a latency of 528ms

Even the speed check was slow, it took three minutes to complete!

TBB is marginally better

Re: Internet connection barely usable - Fault ref F002896495

I was expecting an update today for F002896495 which would tell me that the next review date is 28th September.

No need to wait until the 28th of September for more information. I have just got off the phone with the Exec Team.

They tell me that a new chassis and new channels have been added this week but it is still not enough as they openly admit that Wigan is heavily overutilised. Overutilisation is a complex issue, so complex that in over thirty months there will have been no improvement.

I was told sometime in December is the next estimated completion date? For what exactly, I don't know. I assume that will be the next review date to be given.

Re: Internet connection barely usable - Fault ref F002896495

Is anything else using your connection when you do your tests, as the ping is sky high yet the TBB graph actually isn't too bad compared to some i've seen, and my own.

This is St Helens/WA9 yet we can get about 3-4Mb at peak times.
