Inconsistent speeds and connection dropping out

Hi All,

Not sure what is up with my broadband at the mo, never had many problems with it and in the last month or so have been having various issues. The latest seems to have started about 2 nights ago when the connection was a bit choppy and dropping out. We now seem to have broadband sometimes at 100Mbs and then 5 mins later 20Mbps.

Rany VirginMedia and the guy was pretty unhelpful I got told to restart my laptop, change the ethernet cable I was using, clear cookies etc..... and while my speed has now been 100Mbps for the last 20 mins I'm not convinced it is going to stay this way. So as people here are a helpful bunch I thought I'd post my router status info here and see if anyone can spot any problems with it.

The Pre and Post RS errors on channels 7,8,9 seems to suggest there is a problem as they are called Errors and 8 in particular is quite high. Any and all help/info is greatly appreciated.

A few channels are out of range. Post up the same data for the Upstream ones and also the network logs.

You have noise/interference on your line, the S/N ratio is too low on a number of the downstream channels hence the high error rates on them, the upstream power levels are right on the upper bounds on three of the channels and nearing it on the 4th.

You need to either call back up and insist on an engineer visit or hold tight until one of the forum team spot this thread and offer to contact you directly - might take a few days or so though.

It's more likely that the fault is due to a bad connection or cracked coax cable outside or in the street cabinet but it can't harm to check if all the connections you can get to inside are nice and finger tight.

Just to update the thread, I have since called Virgin Media another 2 times (Tuesday and Today) and the first guy made some sort of changes that meant I was getting 100Mbps again fairly consistently, but today I'm back down to 8Mbps and the guy today wants me to swap my CAT 5E ethernet cable for a CAT 6 one. I told him this was not going to make a difference as I have been using the same Laptop and Cable to test over the week and that was giving speeds of over 100Mbps so the cable is fine (at least he is sending me a CAT 6 cable.... I suppose)

Is there anything I can say to the guys on the phone to actually spark them in to action? 

I told them I don't want to pay for my internet connection until the problem is fixed, but was told that as there is a connection I can't complain to anyone.

Hopefully @Tom_S will be able to help me out, I was just wary of giving my account details out to people on the internet, but  I just need this issue fixed now.
