The speeds I have been getting from my Hub 4 router have changed to an interesting pattern...
Wired LAN Download 5.4 Mbps Upload 36.62 Mbps
Wifi 2.4 GHz Download 29.28 Mbps Upload 25.51 Mbps
Wifi 5.0 GHz Download 258.19 Mbps Upload 36.55 Mbps
Previously wired and 2.4 GHz wireless downloads looked more like the 5.0 GHz result. I haven't consciously changed any setting on the router or the devices.
Any ideas or is the router failing?

The speed figures for 2.4 & 5GHz Wi-Fi look reasonable,
at best the slower but longer reach 2.4 MHz band does max out around 50Mb/s.
But LAN Download 5.4 Mbps is very low, when direct connected to the VM Hub
we would have expected a PC / Laptop to do better, is 5.4Mbps a typo ?

get new cables

No typos. All the upload speeds are what I expected, as was the 5 GHz WiFi download speed. The wired and 2.4 GHz download speeds are both well down. I am suspecting the hub is at fault (it feels a little hot) so next step will be to factory reset and measure speeds in each mode while the other modes are disabled. Deep joy.

Will do but does not address the 2.4GHz download speed problem.

What speed are you expecting from the 2.4GHz band ? ( Hint - the answer is not 258 Mb/s like the 5GHz band )

I used to get 150 Mbps download on 2.4 GHz. Router is line of sight to the laptop at about 5m range. Key point is that the download speed should not be less than the upload speed...

Typically one sees a max throughput around 50 Mb/s on a 20Mhz 2.4GHz connection,
that is with a Wi-Fi link rate of 72Mb/s using 802.11n.
Retest the wired connection with this link and share a screen shot of the results:

Once the test begins click on: Run full test to include: Latency, Jitter, Packet loss & Upload speed
Hopefully we can see the speed to the VM Hub as well as the Hub to device speed.
