How I fixed my slow internet. From 25mbps, to 90mbps, when tech support couldn't help.

Issue started when I restarted router. I got no internet access. I did a factory reset and the internet came back but x2 slower.

A tech came by and messed with a box outside my house. Didn't help.

I replaced router with a new one. Didn't help.

Tech support kept saying that my router settings are ok.

I noticed my default gateway ip address changed after I factory reset. It changed from ipv4(192...) to ipv6 (fe:80:***************). Sometimes it would display both ip's.

The Fix:

I looked up the router gateway setting in the rogers Hitron network management. It was set to DUAL, which is both ipv4 and ipv6.

I tested internet speed on dual setting: 25mbps download, 5mbps upload, 35ms.

Then I changed it to ipv4 only.

Result:

Tested internet on ipv4 only: 90mbps download, 16mbps upload, 10ms. 5ghz: 120mbps download. Instant improvement.

Hello

Where are you based as you are posting on a UK based Virginmedia support forum, for Virginmedia UK residential customers who do not use the Hitron router.
