Ever-decreasing speed on VIVID 200 Optical Fibre... more like ADSL2

I've been on VIVID 200 Optical Fibre for a while now and have noticed that speeds have been quietly been reducing. It's not enough to stop me from using the internet at all, but it's enough to cause me to question what I'm paying for. I know that I'm not going to get 200 Mbps, but 12 Mbps is absolutely not what I'm paying for.

I've carried out an online fault test through the website and it's came back clear.

I have a Virgin Media Super Hub 2ac which is connected to my PC through Ethernet. I have an iPad connected through WiFi which delivers the same experience.

Can anyone spot anything amiss here?

Re: Ever-decreasing speed on VIVID 200 Optical Fibre... more like ADSL2

Everything looks OK there, a few timeouts on the upstream but they're unlikely to be the cause of major speed reductions.

Have you ever reached 200Mb? If not, what is the best speed you've seen?

It's possible that there is congestion in your area which would affect the speeds at peak time, but on Virgin it should always be possible to reach the headline speed at some point during the day. If you've never been able to achieve 200Mb there is definitely something wrong.

I've noticed that when using FTP, download speed is normally sitting at somewhere about 340Kibp/s, but when I connect through VPN, it mysteriously shoots up to 1.1MiB/s.

Really disappointed to see this still going on.

Speed of 60.KiB/s tonight.

Turn the VPN on, whoosh up to 3.0 MiB/s.

Hey sadsmileyface,

Thanks for posting Smiley Happy

Sorry to hear about the problems with your connection. I've taken a look and I don't see any immediate issues. Are you able to test your network while connected in modem mode? Please post back to us with your results.

Take care.
