360Mbps plan delivering wired 80Mbps maximum

Hi,

I've a 360Mbps plan but my wired devices only get to a maximum of 80Mbps.

I'm using cable Cat5e so it should be limited to1Gb, the 5g wi-fi reaches 350Mpbs.

Looking to the hub config, I've seen that the Ethernet port shows that's capped to 100Mbps the port, how can I fix it?

Also, sunning the diagnostics shows that something is wrong with my broadband service, can anyone help me please?

Standard specification compliant:DOCSIS 3.0
Hardware version:4.01

Tks!

Cables can and do fail (I have had several do so) - so first job change to a new Cat6a one (for better shielding).

Next check that the network card drivers are up to date and that it hasnt defaulted down to 100mbps - look in the network settings.

Also to do it properly and rule out software issues can you do it this way...
___________...........

Connect a 1GB enabled computer/laptop, with up to date drivers, via a NEW and working Cat5e/6a ethernet cable, directly to the Hub which you have put into “modem mode”

This ensures that NO other devices can be connected

Test speeds at https://speedtest.samknows.com/ - try on 2 different browsers.

If they are still low – boot your device into Windows safe+networking mode - to disable any potentially interfering software - and try again.

There are many posts on here (I have a list of ~30!) where QoS software, unknown/flaky software, old network card drivers, corrupted browsers, bad cables or other connected devices are limiting speeds on tests.

Report back what that gets.

Hey jbrennand,

Thanks for you answer, actually I've tested with 4 different cables and with 3 different devices, using the https://speedtest.samknows.com/  and it's always the same, it's seems that the ethernet is limited to 100 Mbps.

Hi @rortiz

In that case do as John suggested, 'Next check that the network card drivers are up to date and that it hasnt defaulted down to 100mbps - look in the network settings.'

Open device manager and check the Speed and Duplex there and change it if necessary.

I would say so as we don't have 5 upstream channels in the UK.

There's a huge number of Pre-RS errors and T3 errors in the stats, I've never seen such high numbers before.

That wouldn't affect the ethernet speeds however.

I’m having upload speeds of maximum 10mbps and I’m from Ireland
