1Gig Package - Recieving 100MB!?

I have been having problems with my broadband for some time now. I used to be on the 500MB package but only ever received around 70MB via WI-FI.

Today, I switched to 1Gig and installed the Hub 4 router. I am now only getting 100MB - 150MB from the 1Gig.

We have had 2 technicians out so far, and had the cable changed in the house. When they visit they always seem to pick up around 400MB on there speed testing device they bring, this is obviously tested wired, not wireless.

Wired internet is no use to me, so I need to use WI-FI. I always do a speed test with only 1 device connected to the internet (I pause the others on Virgin Connect). I also repeat this test with other devices such as laptops and phones. All speed tests are performed next to the router so signal strength can't be a problem.

Any ideas I can try? Virgin have turned off 2.4ghz bandwidth so only 5ghz in used, but it hasn't helped.

What wireless device are you using? Some wireless devices are rubbish and can't go fast

This should be easy to understand and I don't see why people think other wise your on 500M you get 70M by wireless no less you then think I upgrade to 1G😣

Nope  sorry, I’ve read this at least four or five times and it’s still a random selection of meaningless words.

I only missed out the word "see".

Hi JB,

Thanks for replying. The main device I am using is:

System Model HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14-ba1xx
OS Name Microsoft Windows 10 Home
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8250U CPU @ 1.60GHz, 1800 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)

I have however, tried it on another HP Laptop, slightly newer, and also 2 mobile phones.

If you were only getting 70 on the 500 plan something is very wrong with your connection.

It's also very wrong that you only get 400 via ethernet cable.

Could you login to the hub and copy and paste all the data from network status.

We can have a look to see what's going on.

On another note I find it very concerning that virgin let you upgrade to 1gig when it couldn't even manage 500.

Standard practice of the call centre staff.  Upselling to a higher speed contract when it will make no difference.

My name is NOT Alessandro. That's just a tag Virginmedia sticks on some contributors. Please ignore it.
