1Gb upgrade but not.....

spirit
On our wavelength

Hi all

Upgraded from M600 (Oomph package) to 1Gb (Volt package) on Tuesday and Hub 3 replaced for a Hub 5. Both used in modem mode connected to an Asus RT-AX82U.

Would always get around 650mbps at the router when using the Asus' own speed test when on the M600 package. Now getting between 800 and 900mbps but not 1k+, so happy it's gone up but can it hit 1k+ ?  Here is the info I have read is needed - thanks for any help:

Seeing 900Mb/s is fine.

Allowing for transmission overheads, 940Mb/s is about the limit of devices with 1 Gb/s network ports.

But isn't the Hub 5 2.5Gb/s and the Asus is 2.4Gb/s and using a Cat 8 cable....so surely should at least expect 1k+ speeds ?

Asus 2.4Gb/s is probably 2.4Ghz WiFi.  Its not the same thing as 2.5Gb Ethernet.

I based my feedback on the info for Asus RT-AX82U from the link below :-

https://www.asus.com/uk/networking-iot-servers/wifi-routers/asus-gaming-routers/rt-ax82u/techspec/

Where network ports are listed as :
++ RJ45 for Gigabits BaseT for WAN x 1
++ RJ45 for Gigabits BaseT for LAN x 4

To exceed about 940Mb/s, requires 2.5Gb/s at the WAN and LAN sides of the Router and on the Computer.

Using the Gig 1 service for a work task might be more interesting than being anti antisocial and running frequent speed tests.
